Rules, Regulations and Car Specifications
Please read rules carefully. Rule changes have been made to clarify problem areas
The general rules section applies to each and every racer, mechanic, pit personnel, family members and fans. Some items, obviously, do not apply to each division - you can easily decide which rules do not apply to you.
YOU ARE EXPECTED TO KNOW THE RULES.
General Rule Statement
THE RULES, PROCEDURES, AND/OR SPECIFICATIONS SET FORTH BY
SCRA AND DIRTONA RACEWAY ARE DESIGNED TO PROVIDE FOR THE ORDERLY
CONDUCT OF RACING EVENTS AND TO ESTABLISH MINIMUM
ACCEPTABLE REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCH EVENTS. THESE RULES SHALL GOVERN THE CONDITION OF ALL DIRTONA RACEWAY
EVENTS, AND, BY PARTICIPATING IN THESE EVENTS, ALL THOSE
ENTERING THE PITS ARE DEEMED TO HAVE COMPLIED WITH THESE
RULES. NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS, AND/OR SPECIFICATIONS.
THEY ARE INTENDED AS A GUIDE FOR THE CONDUCT OF THE SPORT AND ARE NO WAY A GUARANTEE AGAINST INJURY OR DEATH TO PARTICIPANTS, SPECTATORS, OR OTHERS.
CONDUCT
THE PROMOTERS OF THE DIRTONA RACEWAY OR HIS AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVES, ON HIS OWN OR BY INFORMATION IN A REPORT
FROM A TRACK OFFICIAL, LEVY A PENALTY OR FINE UPON ANY INDIVIDUAL FOR CONDUCT DEEMED UNSPORTSMANLIKE
OR NOT BEING IN THE INTEREST OF DIRTONA RACEWAY. THE DIRECTOR OF COMPETITION OR HIS AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE SHALL HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO APPROVE OR DISAPPROVE ANY PERSON AND/OR CAR FOR COMPETITION. FURTHER, HE SHALL HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO HAVE REMOVED FROM THE PREMISES, ANY PERSON OR PERSONS FOR CONDUCT THAT IN HIS OPINION, IS DETRIMENTAL TO THE BEST INTEREST OF DIRTONA RACEWAY. FURTHER, THESE OFFENSES WILL BE JUST CAUSE FOR FORFEITURE OF OFFENDERS PIT PASSES AND NO REFUNDS WILL BE MADE.
WE EXPECT COURTEOUS CONDUCT FROM ALL PARTICIPANTS AT ALL TIMES. WE DO NOT TOLERATE PROFANITY IN FRONT OF RACE FANS OR OFFICIALS.
1.) The racing events at Dirtona Raceway are open to all persons complying with these rules and specifications and their admission into the racing area signifies their acceptance of and compliance with all provisions. All entrants must file an official entry form furnished by Dirtona Raceway.
2.) All drivers must be at least 14 years of age. 14-17 year-olds must have a parent sign an insurance release form. Drivers must furnish a valid social security number before picking up any prize money.
3.) Only tow vehicles are allowed in pit area. There is vehicle parking space on the east side of the pits for personal vehicles.
4.) All persons entering the pit area must be at least 14 years of age (proof by birth certificate), have a signed minors release form on file at Dirtona Raceway, pay a pit fee, and read and acknowledge by signature an insurance release form. A pit pass will be issued to all persons entering the pits and shall be worn in plain sight while in the pit area.
5.) Car drivers are responsible for the conduct of all pit personnel and family members. Any unsportsman like conduct will result in punitive action and/or disqualification by the promoter. Keep control of them, drivers, or you will also be removed. These actions will be strictly enforced.
6.) There will be absolutely no alcoholic beverages and/or illegal substances consumed by any driver or pit personnel before, during, or after the racing event.
7.) All persons will conduct themselves in a professional manner while on the premises. Arguments, poor sportsmanship, and cursing in front of fans, officials or participants could result in disqualification or suspension by an official.
8.) No speeding or reckless driving in the pit area. This can be grounds for disqualification and/or punitive action by the promoter or any official.
9.) No radios or communication systems of any kind are allowed in cars, on drivers, in pit area (other than officials), or in the stands. Only raceceivers allowed.
10.) A registration fee will be charged for every driver, no matter what car is to be driven. An additional registration fee will be charged for each class they choose to drive in. A pit entry fee will be paid for each class a driver draws for and intends to run in during one night. Driver must be paid in before drawing.
11.) Points will go with the driver not the car.
12.) All winnings not picked up by the end of the following race at Dirtona Raceway shall be counted as donations to the track. THANKS!
13.) The draw closes one hour before scheduled race time.
14.) A race is complete when the lead car has completed the required number of laps and scoring will be discontinued as soon as each car following crossed the finish line ONCE. Positions will be determined by the number of laps completed.
15.) Car numbers must be on both sides, top of cars and must be painted in a contrasting color to the car. All cars must have a 4” number on passenger side of the windshield for staging purposes. Keep car numbers clean from mud and so forth so the scorers can read them. If scorekeepers cannot read the number, you will not be scored. NO SCORE. NO PAY.
16.) All on-field judgments will be final. No arguing or reviewing of videotapes will be allowed.
17.) Any rules and regulations will be at the discretion of the track officials.
18.) All cars shall enter the track from the staging area (west entrance). Any car entering the track from the east will be subject to disqualification.
19.) NO ONE EXCEPT THE DRIVER IS TO APPROACH AN OFFICIAL AT ANY TIME UNLESS IT IS AN EMERGENCY
20.) COMPLAINTS WILL BE DEALT WITH AFTER RACES IF ANYONE FEELS A COMPLAINT NEEDS TO HAVE IMMEDIATE ATTENTION IT WILL BE THE OFFICIALS DECISION AS TO WHEN THE COMPLAINT WILL BE ADDRESSED.
PROTESTS
Protests will be taken only from a driver who finishes the race within 2 laps of the top 4 winning cars. Only the top 4 cars can be protested. The protest must be in writing, be accompanied by $150 in cash, and be turned in no longer than 5 minutes from the drop of the checkered flag of the division in which the car in question is running. The written protest and the cash are to be given to the tech man and no one else. The top 4 winning cars and drivers, plus the car and driver doing the protesting, will go immediately to the claim area. If you need to cool your car down at the cool area, please notify an official so they can accompany you. When at the claim area, immediately shut off the car. Cars that do not follow these rules will be disqualified. The car and driver doing the protesting will pull up beside the car in question. Protest must be made on specific items such as pistons, camshaft, carburetor, etc. During the tear down process, if any violations are found besides the one in question, the car and driver will be disqualified and the $100 will be returned to the protester and $50 will go to Dirtona Raceway. If the protestee is found to be legal, he/she will receive the $100 from the protester and the other $50 will go to Dirtona Raceway. The promoter has the right to check any and all cars at any time. If the car being protested is found to be illegal, the driver will lose all points, trophy, prizes and money for that night of racing and will not be allowed to run the next scheduled points race at Dirtona Raceway.
Only the driver of the top 4 cars and one pit helper, plus necessary officials, will be allowed in the claim area. The tech man has the final decision. There will be no meetings with drivers to decide after the fact.
Refusing to tear down is the same as being illegal. Also, not going to the claim area after tour feature race is the same as being illegal. If you are found to be illegal, you will lose all points, trophies, prizes and money for that night of racing.
If more than one protest is filed on any one car, the protest filed first will be accepted. Only one protest per car per night is allowed.
All protest or complaints will be taken from drivers only. Arguing with officials will result in immediate action from the track. Driver, you are responsible for the people with you. Keep them under control, or you will suffer the consequences.
There are no gray areas. The tech man has the right to dig down deeper on a protest or on any inspection if he is not completely satisfied. He may do so until he is satisfied. You are illegal until you can prove to the track that you are legal.
ROLL CAGE
1.) Full four-post roll cage with diagonal brace behind the driver is mandatory. Factory and Street Stocks must have x-brace behind driver. Cage must be constructed of minimum 1 ½” x 0.095” wall thickness mild steel tubing. There must be gussets in the corners of the cage. No square tubing or galvanized pipe allowed.
2.) Must have at least 3 door bars on driver’s side of car.
3.) May have one 2” bar for protection, front and rear, no wider than frame rails and cannot be in front of the bumper. May be tied to roll cage
4.) No bars outside of stock bodylines with the exception of rub rails. Rub rails 1” wide x 2” tall may be attached to body from fender well to fender well flush with body. Rub rails must be securely welded. No tack welding or bolting.
5.) Driver must have 3” head clearance from top of roll cage.
6.) High back racing seats mandatory and must be attached to roll cage.
7.) 5 point racing harness must be attached to roll cage. Must be within the inspection date.
8.) Roll cage must be securely welded to frame or body using backing plates or other means to secure. All fitted joints must be welded completely around.
9.) Cage must be padded where close to driver.
10.) All cars must have front and rear hook-up device to assist wreckers.
11.) Drive shaft must be painted white and have a loop on front half.
12.) All glass, chrome, exterior hardware, lights, plastic, upholstery seats, dash, and wiring must be removed. No mirrors!
13.) Body panels must be securely fastened to car. Hood must be bolted or pinned. Sunroofs must be covered over.
SAFETY
1.) Seats: No stock seats. Must be high-back racing type bucket seat. Must be securely fastened to roll cage.
2.) Seatbelts: 5-point safety harness with quick release buckles. 3” belts except for crotch belt required. Belts must be no older than 2 years. Must pin clip-in belts.
3.) Window nets are mandatory for all cars.
4.) Minimum helmet requirement is 2005 Snell. NO Motorcycle Helmets allowed. If it has an "M" on the model # that is a Motorcycle Helmet.
5.) All cars must have windshield on at least driver half. May use either expanded metal or ¼” vertical bars spaced no wider than 4” apart.
6.) Fire suits of Nomax or Proban required. Top and Bottom.
7.) Kill switch must be marked on and off unless key used.
8.) All safety equipment must be in use while car is in motion on track.
9.) All cars in every class must have a solid throttle shaft linkage.
NO CABLES WILL BE ALLOWED.
10.) 1” lug nuts required on all wheels in all classes.
Safety Suit
SFI APPROVED FULL FIRE SUITS OF A FLAME RETARDANT NATURE
MUST BE WORN BY ALL COMPETITORS. FIRE RETARDANT NECK BRACES, FIRE RETARDANT SHOES AND FIRE RETARDANT GLOVES HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
The officials’ interpretation of the rules shall be the official Interpretation, and will supersede any and all other Interpretation of the rules. If you are in doubt on any rules, ask an official. A decision will be rendered. When there is no rule to cover a given situation, the officials’ decision will be final. Ignorance is no excuse.
The race director shall be empowered to permit minor deviations from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his opinion do not after the minimum acceptable requirements. No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from such alterations or specifications.
Any Interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials. Their decision is final!
IF THE RULES DON’T SAY YOU CAN DO IT THEN YOU CAN’T!!!
THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO CLAIMER IN ANY CLASS IF YOU ARE NOT LEGAL YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED AND LOOSE ANY POINTS ACCUMULATED.
Introduction:
The Thunders are designed to be a pure stock racing class.The purpose of this class is
safe,fun,low cost,close,competitive racing. An attempt will be made to keep this class stock as much as possible and the spirt of the rule is what we are after and we shall do whatever we can to Keep the Thunders affordable. Use of OEM(original equipment manufactuer) parts is part of what will make this class work. We reserve the right to change, omit, add any rules we deem responsible for safety, and the betterment of competition.
Drivers must be at least 14 years old.
Car/Truck Options:
Open to any passenger car or 2-WD light duty pickup truckfrom 1960- present date. No Jeeps,Corvettes,convertibles,Citations,Vegas,Corvair,Falcon,Gremlins,Monza types, 4-WD's,sports cars,or compact cars. Vehicles not covered under these exclusions do not mean they are pure stock. Consult tech inspector as to the legality of the vehicle before building. Some models may not be included in theabove exclusions. To avoid dissapointment and exspense, please check with us before you build a car.
Car/Pick-up Specification:
Any make or model American production car or pick-up trucks. Metric (Toyota,Honda,Nissan,ect.) pickups allowed but not small import compact cars. Wheelbase on any Thunder will be a minimum 100 inches. Must be 2 wheel drive cars or pick-ups either front or rear wheel drive but only as it came out from the factory with no wheelbase modifications.
(A)Wheelbase to Engine type rule:
Thunders that are 100 - 107 inches of wheelbase must use 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder engines. If below 108 inches of wheelbase racer will be 6 or 4 cylinder powered.
Over 108 inches of wheelbase canuse stock unlimited size engine.
Note: No v8 powered camaros,Mustangs,Firebirds,or cars of similar style and type.No factory specials allowed (Cobra Jets-SS's GTX's,Z28,Boss,etc) remember if you are not sure contact us now.
Must stay within the same Manufacture Family ( Ford to Ford, Chevy(GM) to Chevy,Dodge to Chrysler)
(B)Bodies,Franes,Suspension,and more:
Must retain stock bodies. Hood scoops that do not interfer with driver's vision are allowed. Hood scoops must not be performance enhancing (no holes in hood that direct air to carburator or fuel system)
A rear spoiler that is no wider than width of trunk lid or tail gate is allowed. Spoiler must not be over 12 inches taller than the mounting point which must be at the rear of trunk lid or tailgate.
Body trimming for tire clerance and removing inner fenders,and inner door skin for roll bar clearence is allowed. Hood and Trunk lid and trunk area may be gutted. Firewall must remain intact with any holes to driver's compartment covered. Uni-bodies may be braced for safety (driver's compartment area only - that allows for under the car also). No adjustable springs or weight jacks on the car. No added weight to the cars.
(C)All glass must be removed. All trim,headlights,taillights,turn signals,marker lights,mirrors,carpet,headliner,rear seat, passenger seat, door panels and antennas must be removed. Horn may be left intact and working. Brake lamp mounted in rear windsheild area is advised and allowed.
(D)All doors must be welded- Air bags must be removed.
(E) Must have front and rear tow hooks or chains for the wrecker.
(F) Must be tastefully and cleanly painted with car numbers on the doors and roof.
(G) Bumpers and nose pieces- Must be stock appearing- aftermarket grill or nose pieces are allowed. Hydraulic Bumpers must be chained on.
(H) Battery - Must be relocated and mounted securly and covered- battery must be placed in the rear passenger seating area. Battery cables running in the passenger area of the car must be mounted in safe and secure manner.
(I) Body bumpers or nerf bars down the sides of the car to protect the body area are alowed and recommended. To help protect the sides of the car from the bumper and bumper, nerf bars are allowed on each side of car. That bar or pipe must not be over 2 inch pipe or tubing.
(J) Exhaust- Must be stock manifolds and that means no modificaitons or performance enhanced. NO HEADERS allowed (even if OEM).
(K) Stock Engine- Any 100% stock V-8 or 6 or 4 cylinder (check wheelbase rules). Gasoline engine only. No performance parts of any kind. No superchargers or tubo's on V-6 or V-8. The 4 cylinder cars may use stock OEM turbo's or superchargers, if it came on that make and model. No one-off specials like Shelby's and Buick Grand Nationals, ect. Remember Stock parts may not be altered either, NO BREZENSKI or performance enhanced Manifolds. A/C, EGR, heater, cruise control may be removed. The engine match the body (Chevy to GMC, Dodge to Chrysler, Ford to Mercury)
(L) Must use 2 barrel stock carburetors, stock fule injection, and stock fuel pumps. No Holley aftermarket caburetors. Carburetor Motors must pull 16" or greater (17, 18, 19) of vacuum at 1000 rpm that is checked by the carburetor. (Zero tolerance). Must have vacuum supply line accessible to the fender well.
(M) No aftermarket electric fuel pumps. Stock fuel pumps are allowed on fuel njected cars. Must be hooked into the main power switch of the car so when the switch is off so is the power to the fuel pump.
(N) Motors must be in original position. No motor set back of offset. Motor mounts do not have to be stock.
(O) Transmission: OEM Manual transmission to automatic and automatic to manual is car builder's choice. Transmission and clutch assembly and linkages must be of smooth working order and must be mounted safely. No mini clutches!
(P) Tires/Wheels: Maximum tires size 60 series DOT legal street tires or IMCA Modified and IMCA Stock Car tires allowed. Also aspalt take offs are allowed. No racing style re-caps. No mud and snow tires, all weather is allowed. OEM maximum tire width 8" and diameter 16". 1" lug nuts allowed and recommended. Racing wheels are recommended.
(Q) Suspension: All suspension and steering parts must be stock for that car. No modifying of OEM parts, no mixing and matching, no relocating of mounts, stock springs without modifications with stock length. Locking of rear ends is allowed as well as FORD 9 inch rear ends are allowed because of axle safety. Mini spools are allowed on rear ends. Racing steering wheels allowed. Springs: coil springs must be the same left to right on the car. To clarify that means thae same diameter coils as well as coil length. Must maintain stock ride height.
(R) Ignition: Must use stock OEM type ignition- no aftermarket HEI distibuters or coils. Keep it stock!
Safety:
1. A six point well constructed roll cage is mandatory. Minimum roll cage should have at one post by each windshield post and two behind the driver with all four connected at the top with a roof hoop. Roll bars are allowed through the front or rear firewalls for 2010. You must have an angle brace running from the upper right corner to the lower left corner behind the driver. The two back bars must run from the top left and top right of the roof hoop to the rear of the car. We recommend a protective bar running from the front left cage post forward and down to the frame to protect the driver's foot area. There should be a minimum of 3" clearance from te roll cage to the driver's head. Roll cage padding is recommended.
2. Windshield area recommended having four (4) 3/8" windshield bars. Must have mesh screen on at least driver's side of where the windshield area is. One inch square mesh, painted black recommended.
3. Minimum of three (3) driver's side door bars constructed as part of the roll cage. Must have planting and reinforcements between the bars.
4. Gussets on all welds recommended. Must have minimum 5-point quick release seat belts attached to roll cage, Racing helmet required (Snell m2005 min SA2005 recommended). The driver must wear a long sleeve fire retardant suit also rcommended is racing fire retardant gloves, underwear, and shoes.
5. Stock gas tank must be removed and replaced with a fuel cell or a marine type tank enclosed in a metal box. Metal fuel tank protection bars recommended. Fuel tank must be securely mounted to the trunk floor.
6. If other than a key ignition switch then that replacement switch be painted red with on and off plainly marked. Must be easily accessile to driver and track crew.
7. Must use racing fiberglass or metal racing seat. Fiberglass sear must have a sttel reinforcing backer.
8. Window net recommended for drivers door window area. Should have a latch at top of window that driver and safety crew can easily release.
9. Fuel: pump gas only, no race gas, no additives, and no NOS.... If car is using rubber fuel lines they must be encased in metal pipe as they pass thru the driver's compartment. No performance enhancing additives are allowed to the fuel.
10. Numbers must be painted on front doors a minimum of 18" high, on the roof a minimum of 24" high, and a minimum of 3" wide. All number must be of a contrasting color to the body, and easy to read. NO chrome numbers allowed. Vinyl numbers and letters are allowed. Sponsors names and other lettering must be neat and not interfere with the numbers.
11. If car is set-up for passengers, it must have same safety equipment and roll cage type and protection as driver side. Passenger is required to have same safety equipment as driver.
12. Crash damage: these cars are going to be involved in a crash once in a while it is just a racing thing. Cars will need to be reapired to the safe and the apperance needs to be good also.
Factory stock
CAR & BODY 3200 LB. WITH DRIVER AT END OF RACE
NO FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CARS.
1.) American made passenger car. No pickups, station wagons, convertibles,
front wheel or rear engine cars.
2.) NO AFTER MARKET BODIES! STOCK FACTORY OEM BODY.
3.) Minimum 108” wheel base car. No cutting, shortening or lengthening of any kind. Stock wheelbase frames mandatory.
4.) Full stock floorboards must remain intact with metal firewall separating the driver from the fuel tank area. Stock firewall in stock position between engine and driver with all holes covered. Stock floor pan must cover entire drive train. No trimming floor pan outside of frame rails.
5.) No trimming except for 2” tires clearance.
6.) Front wheel wells may be removed. Rear wheel wells must remain stock.
7.) Hoods and trunk lids must remain stock and must be securely fastened. No holes in hood. Bracing can be removed.
8.) Stock bumpers must be used. Does not have to be same make as car. Pipe bumpers allowed if used with a plastic nosepiece. Rear bumpers must remain stock (no pipe bumpers). End of bumpers must be plated to side of body panel with minimum of 1/16” steel welded or bolted within bodylines. If plastic nosepiece is used, it must be riveted within bodylines. No sharp edges will be tolerated!!
9.) Bumpers must be chained on both sides to the frame to prevent falling off onto the track.
10.) No bars outside of stock bodylines with the exception of rub rails. Rub rails 1” wide by 2” tall may be attached to body from fender well to fender well flush with body. Rub rails must be securely fastened to body.
11.) Driver’s seat must not go farther back than rear of front door.
SUSPENSION
1.) Suspension parts must remain the stock for make of car. No modifying or reinforcing. No solid bushings or adjustable stabilizer links. Torsion bars must be
welded with equal spacing on each side.
2.) Stock mounted steel shocks and stock springs in stock location. No overloads or coil over shocks. Coil springs are to be same wire diameter and height as opposite side, no spacers. Leaf springs are to have same number of leafs as opposite side. Lowering blocks (2” maximum) may be used if they are of the same thickness as opposite side. Mopars with adjustable torsion bars must be made non-adjustable. Sway bars must be made non-adjustable. No traction control or traction aiding devices.
3.) Brakes on all four wheels must work. After Market pedal allowed. No adjustable device allowed. No adjustable proportioning valves.
4.) Weight or ballast allowed .
5) 9” Ford rear ends are allowed if mounted securely in factory mounts. No quick-change rear ends.
6.) Floaters will be allowed
7.) STOCK MOUNT NON-ADJUSTABLE TUBULAR UPPER A ARMS WITH STOCK NON-ADJUSTABLE BALL JOINTS WILL BE ALLOWED
WHEELS & TIRES
1.) Stock 7” & 8” wheels and tires allowed or 10” wheels with asphalt take offs.
NO RADIAL TAKEOFFS. Any D.O.T. tire that is available to the public as a street tire. White spoke steel allowed. Steel Wheels Only. 1” lug nuts required on all four wheels.
2.) No recaps, mud and snow, fancy exotic, trick gumball, McCrearys or Hoosier tires allowed. Must have D.O.T. stamp. Grooving allowed. Tires: 10”maximum width sidewall to sidewall.
3.) NO BEAD LOCKS WILL BE ALLOWED.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
1.) Engine must be strictly stock for make and model. Ford to Ford, Chevy to Chevy, etc.
2.) ALL ENGINE PARTS MUST HAVE OEM NUMBERS. (BLOCKS, INTAKES, ETC.)
Can have stock replacement head 170CC MAX
3.) Any hydraulic flat tappet camshaft only. Nothing over .060 bore. Roller tip rocker arms. No roller cams
4.) Flat top pistons only. No aluminum or steel hi-rise intakes. No Brazinskies. Adapters or spacers allowed. (1” maximum with gaskets). No modifying of any kind on intake manifolds.
5.) One two-barrel carburetor. No polishing, or altering of carburetor. May remove choke. Stock two barrel 500 cfm max allowed. No after market or modified carburetors allowed. Headers MUST exit behind driver.
6.) Any stock transmission, flywheels, and pressure plate. No aluminum flywheels or pressure plates. A scatter shield of ¼” or more plate of bullet proof or cast iron is required over the bell housing for manual transmissions and must be securely fastened to the frame. Auto transmissions must use minimum of 11” stock torque converter. Torque converter must work. No dump valves. No couplers or mini clutches. Must have visual inspection port. No less than 1” diameter in bell housing. Reverse must operate.
7.) No porting, polishing, grinding or altering of any kind to cylinder heads, intake manifold or valve spring seats. No bowtie, Vortec, SVO, dart, aluminum, or angle plug Chevy heads. Guide plates with Screw-in studs allowed in heads. No machine work tolerated.
8.) Racing gas allowed. No alcohol, nitro, methanol, or additives of any kind allowed. No electric fuel pumps. No pressurized fuel systems. No electric devices allowed in trunk area.
9.) Stock ignition only.
10.) After market harmonic balancers allowed if O.E.M. specs only.
11.) No cubic inch restrictions.

CAR & BODY 3000 LB WT. RULE
1.) American made passenger cars only. No pickups, station wagons, convertibles, front
wheel drive or rear engine cars. New style all steel bodies allowed. Ford to Ford, Chevy
to Chevy, etc.
2.) CAR AND DRIVER NEED TO WEIGH 3000 LB AT THE END OF THE RACE.
3.) Minimum 108” wheelbase car.
4.) The floor pan on driver’s side must be OEM or heavier material with firewall
separating driver from engine compartment and fuel cell area.
5.) Fenders may be trimmed for tire clearance. Front and rear wheel wells may be removed.
6.) Battery must be securely mounted if located in driver’s compartment. Battery
must also be fully enclosed. No electrical fuel pumps.
7.) Pipe bumpers allowed if used with plastic nosepiece. End of bumpers must be plated to side of fender panel with minimum 1/16” steel welded or bolted within bodylines.
8.) No sharp edges will be tolerated. If plastic nosepiece used, must be riveted within bodylines.
9.) No bars outside of bodylines with the exception of rub rails. Rub rails 1” wide
by 2” tall may be attached to the body from fender well flush with body. Rub rails
must be securely fastened. Bolting allowed. Side skirts must be securely fastened,
if used. Nerf bars okay, but must be within ½” of body and must be securely
fastened. Bolting allowed.
10.) After market bodies allowed (maximum 8” spoiler). If aluminum must add 30lbs
of weight to right front. Must have metal roof. Fiberglass hood allowed.
FRAME
1.)Frame must be stock and of same manufacturer as body and engine, GM on GM,
Ford on Ford, except Chrysler cars run GM frame and suspension only. Suspension
must remain in stock location.
2.)No cutting to offset or narrow. Frame must remain stock and same type from
front bumper to centerline of rear axle. Must be a full width type frame.
3.) The rest of the frame may be fabricated from minimum 2”x3” rectangular tubing,
0.90” wall thickness. The fabricated frame must be an extension of the stock
frame with no offset. REAR MAY BE 1 ¾” X.095 ROUND TUBING.
SUSPENSION
SUSPENSION MUST REMAIN STOCK. IF LEAF SPRINGS WERE ON ORIGINAL
FRAME,LEAF SPRINGS MUST BE USED- IF COILS WERE USED ON ORIGINAL
FRAME, COIL SPRINGS MUST BE USED. OTHERWISE NO MODIFICATIONS
ALLOWED, EXCEPT AS FOLLOWS:
A: ANY SPRINGS OR SWAY BAR MAY BE USED IF MOUNTED IN STOCK LOCATION.
B: NO AIR SHOCKS OR COIL-COVERS.
C: WEIGHT JACKS ARE ALLOWED.
D: RACING SHOCKS AND PANHARD BAR ALLOWED.
E: LOWER TRAILING ARMS MUST BE STOCK AND MOUNTED IN STOCK LOCATION ON THE FRAME. A SINGLE ADJUSTABLE UPPER TRAILING ARM MAY BE FABRICATED AND MOUNTED IN STOCK LOCATION ON FRAME. A SINGLE ADJUSTABLE UPPER TRAILING ARM MAY BE
FABRICATED AND MOUNTED ON THE REAR END HOUSING AND EXTENDING STRAIGHT FORWARD. UPPER ARM MAY BE MADE FROM 1- INCH MINIMUM O.D. X 0.120 – INCH WALL TUBING. MAXIMUM LENGTH IS 24” CENTER –TO CENTER WITH HEIM OR RUBBER A FRAME TYPE
SUSPENSION BUSHING ONLY. ADJUSTABLE REAR SUSPENSION MAY BE USED WITH STOCK TYPE LOWER TRAILING ARMS.
F: SPINDLES MUST BE STOCK TYPE. NO FABRICATED RACING SPINKLES.
G: UPPER A-FRAMES OEM TYPE OR AFTER MARKET
NON-ADJUSTABLE OKAY.
H: NO SWEDGE TYPE HEIM ENDS. MODIFIED TYPE UPPERS ALLOWED.
WHEELS AND TIRES
1.) Minimum 8” wheels with any D.O.T. tire that is available to the public through retail outlets and advertised as a street tire. NO RADIAL TAKEOFFS. Cross Section 11 ½” sidewall-to-sidewall. Cross section grooving okay or economy scuff tire, new or used, 27.0-10.0 x 15 or 26.5-10.0 x 15. 1” lug nuts required on all four wheels. Bead locks allowed on 8” wheels.
2.) Maximum 10” wheels with track tire. No bead locks on 10” wheels.
3.) Steel Wheels Only!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
1.) Engine must be strictly OEM cast iron block. (After market stock type crank allowed). May be set back #1 spark plug to center of top ball joint on left side. Ford to Ford, GM to GM, etc.
2.) ROLLER CAMS ALLOWED
3.) Flat top pistons only. Aluminum intakes allowed. One two barrel or
one four barrel carburetor.
4.) Any stock transmission, flywheels, and pressure plate allowed. No aluminum flywheels. A scatter shield between driver and engine is mandatory but you can cut off 1/3 of bell housing on the bottom. Auto transmissions must use stock torque converter with minimum dimensions of 11”. Torque converter must work. No drilling holes in flywheel. Must have inspection port no less than 1” diameter in bell housing. Reverse must operate.
5.) Front pump coupler and dump valve is allowed.
6.) Any external working clutch allowed. Mini clutches allowed. No internal clutches allowed. No brinn or falcons allowed.
7.) No porting, polishing, grinding, or altering of any kind to cylinder heads or intake manifold. Any cast iron heads available to the public allowed. No aluminum heads allowed.
8.) Fuel racing gas. No Nitro or Nitrous Oxide. No pressure fuel system.
9.) Production type ignition. No magneto or MSD spark box.
10.) After market harmonic balancers allowed if OEM specs., only.
11.) Headers allowed but must exit vehicle in downward fashion.
12.) All cars must have a solid throttle shaft linkage. No cables will be allowed.
FUEL TANKS
1.) Fuel cells are mandatory. Fuel cells must be inside fuel can.
2.) Must be mounted in trunk area and securely fastened down with at least two1” wide metal straps.
